Fall weddings in Colorado are some of our favorites simply because of the golden trees; there is nothing quite like fall in Colorado, and Peter and Shelby’s beautiful September wedding showed off some of the best the state has to offer. This was such a sweet, dreamy, and stunning day to be a part of.

Peter and Shelby met during a poker game at a young adults retreat with their church in Buena Vista, Colorado. They both immediately knew they had a connection and wanted to spend more time with each other. During their time of dating, they spent a lot of time outdoors hiking, camping, and exploring Colorado together (Peter grew up in California, and Shelby grew up in Arkansas). And when Peter proposed, they were on top of Pikes Peak — does it get any more romantic than that?

We had the opportunity to take Peter and Shelby’s engagement photos at a campground in Buena Vista over the summer and incorporated their love for the outdoors into their shoot. These two were simply a joy to be around, and their love for each other was SO obvious. Their session was a blast and fit their story perfectly (see their session here).

Based on their engagement session, we knew their wedding was going to be a beautiful and crazy fun party; we couldn’t wait! Shelby thoughtfully curated every detail of the day to match their story and interests; from the green and earthy bridesmaids’ dresses to the adventure-based seating chart, everything was incredibly thoughtful and unique to their story.

The wedding day was full of special touches, one of the most memorable being that the wedding party got ready at the house Peter and his dad built together — yes, you read that correctly. They built the house where the wedding party got ready. Knowing this made the morning of the wedding that much more special.

The house itself is perched high in the mountains, showcasing the beautiful Colorado fall colors and surrounding mountain peaks. Peter and Shelby had their first look on the back patio where they also shared their private vows. It was beyond intimate and sweet (it made us teary-eyed!) and was a beautiful reminder of what the wedding day is really about.

The ceremony and reception themselves were held at The Pines by Wedgewood Weddings in Golden, Colorado. This is a beautiful venue with natural scenery and towering pine trees, and it was perfect for Peter and Shelby’s day.

Their ceremony was Christ-centered, and their love for the Lord was beyond evident throughout the duration of the ceremony. It was humbling and beautiful to be a part of. The rest of the wedding was a big celebration with Peter and Shelby’s family and friends. The night was full of beautiful and thoughtful speeches and dancing the night away. What a joyful and dreamy day it was.
